Samuel Davis diary, 1789.

Diary of Samuel Davis describing a journey from Plymouth, Mass. to Fairfield, Conn. and New York City kept from 27 August - 28 September 1789. Davis comments on the locales traveled through with his companion, Barnabas Hedge, Jr., including Worcester and Springfield, Mass., and New Haven, Conn. Davis notes the general scenery, taverns and inns patronized, and public buildings and landmarks visited. While in New York City, Davis comments on a visit to Federal Hall and the Congressional proceedings he witnessed. Also included are sketches of several places visited, including New Haven and the Springfield Armory, and a list of Davis's travel expenses.
